SYNOPSIS
Beautiful and cunning Angela Madigan, a forty-one year old psychologist, has the world by the tail. Driven by childhood poverty and an overbearing, Bible-thumping mother, Angela has finally clawed her way to security and wealth beyond her wildest dreams.
Thomas Madigan is a far cry from the energetic young med-student Angela met at Cal State twenty years ago. The magic of first love has soured and gone bad. Thomas, a workaholic with a fondness for scotch, denies Angela nothing – except love. Maryland, once a happy place of fresh opportunities, has become strange and lonely for Angela. She’s in private practice with a stylish office in Cumberland where she listens to boring patients and draws caricature stick people.
Connie Macgregor is Angela’s only friend. Connie, a lesbian, knows the stigma of being an outcast; her family all remain on the stony edge of acceptance. Connie’s romantic love for Angela stays just under the surface, but not completely unknown to Angela who finds the infatuation stimulating.
Rob Jackson is the young lover Angela takes to rectify her boring existence. Her egotistical, self-indulgent whims propel Thomas, Connie and Rob all to hover in Angela’s orbit and create a life filled with comfort, excitement and illicit pleasure.
When Angela accidentally runs over and kills homeless “Doc” on an isolated stretch of mountain road in Western Maryland, her life is suddenly and forever changed. Afterward, lies and deceit are the tiny hammers that chip away every tangible aspect of Angela’s life until nothing remains but the raw core.
Her sloppy, irresponsible actions eventually lead Angela to The Trinity House, a privately funded shelter for juveniles caught between criminal parents and an unforgiving society. Here Angela meets her match in Olga Mengle; an old German woman who runs the place with uncomplicated wisdom.
Jeff Sanderson is the middle-aged doctor who shares a unique bond with Olga and The Trinity House children. Together they gently teach Angela life-altering lessons about atonement, acceptance and unconditional love.

It's true, definitely 5 stars---this book grabs you immediately and you enjoy every page of it. What a great story, beautifully written. Frankly, I know the author, knew her only slightly when she told me she'd written a book. I was so pleasantly surprised when I read it and can strongly feel that a movie based on this book would be a huge hit. I'm insisting that a couple screenwriter friends read it for that very reason. My sister-in-law saw the book in my car, while waiting for the wrecker to arrive (a long story). . . she picked it up and was hooked. HAD to finish it. LOVED it, too. It's that kind of book. I, too, would like to see a sequel--after the movie is made! Outside of the classics, plus Lonesome Dove, I've never been so excited about a book.

A Wink at Midnight edition by Sandra Dorsett Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I want to read more! I hope there's another book coming out! That was awesome, suspensful, and STEAMY! Brings a whole new meaning to being a "bad girl!"
Once I started reading this book - I couldn't put it down! Angela definately has some issues & she works them out in her own special way. The characters in this book come to life & remind me of people I've known over the years. There were so many touching moments in this book - it made me feel like I was there with them the entire time!
The only thing I didn't like about this book is that it ended too soon; I could have gone for another 500 pages & been perfectly content.
Yes, critics always say that a book is a 'must read', but in this case... it's true!
